At Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu, our mission is to empower individuals across the globe by transforming lives through the martial arts. For over 54 years, we have dedicated ourselves to helping people develop the mental fortitude and physical strength necessary to overcome life’s challenges, both on and off the mats. We believe in the power of Jiu-Jitsu to instill discipline, resilience, and a sense of community, guiding our students toward personal excellence and a healthier, more fulfilling life.

The Machado Brothers' Legacy

A Rich History

For over 50 years, Master Carlos and The Machado Brothers have been dedicated to the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Nephews to one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the late Master Carlos Gracie, they learned from an early age the martial art that eventually exploded in popularity all over the world.

The Gracie Connection

Master Carlos & The Machado Brothers began their training at the legendary Gracie Academy where they were taught and mentored directly by their Uncle, Grandmaster Helio Gracie. All of the Machado brothers spent a lot of time at the Gracie Compound with all of the Gracie kids. They played together, ate together, trained together and simply grew up together.

Who is Master Carlos Machado?

Master Carlos Machado is one of the pioneers of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the United States of America. Currently an 8th degree Coral Belt, Master Carlos Machado came to the USA in the early 1990’s with his brothers. After many years of leadership and growth, Master Carlos has formed the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association: one of the strongest and fastest growing BJJ organizations in the world today.

Today, Master Carlos Machado is a Hall of Fame instructor of Jiu-Jitsu and known in Texas and the Southwest region of The United States as the “Godfather of Jiu-Jitsu”. Before Master Carlos Machado relocated to the Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas area, nobody there was teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Today most of the BJJ lineage in the Southwest can be traced back to Master Carlos Machado.

While Master Carlos Machado is renowned for his exceptional skills and contributions to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he is also a devoted family man. A proud father of 4 awesome children, Carlos Machado balances his professional achievements with his role as a loving parent and husband.

Master Carlos is married to his wife Lindsay, who supports him in his endeavors and plays a crucial role in his life both on and off the mats. Together, they have built not just a family, but a community centered around the values of discipline, respect, and continuous self-improvement that are core to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

This balance between his professional passion and family life exemplifies Master Carlos Machado\'s belief in the holistic benefits of Jiu-Jitsu - not just as a martial art, but as a way of life that enhances all aspects of one's existence.

Nephews to one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the late Master Carlos Gracie. Master Carlos Machado and The Machado Brothers learned, from an early age, the martial art that eventually exploded in popularity all over the world.

Master Carlos & The Machado Brothers began their training at the legendary Gracie Academy where they were taught and mentored directly by their Uncle, Grandmaster Helio Gracie. All of the Machado brothers spent a lot of time at the Gracie Compound with all of the Gracie kids. They played together, ate together, trained together and simply grew up together.

The Machado’s had the honor to learn from the founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the late Carlos Gracie Sr., and several of their cousins in the Gracie family. In addition to the nuances of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the Machado’s also incorporated in their teaching the philosophy preached by late Master Carlos Gracie, one of humility and service, illustrated by the motto “LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR”.

Each brother has accomplished remarkable success on their own right, both as competitors and instructors, winning national, pan-american and world titles. Occasionally, they have ventured into the entertainment world with multiple appearances on TV shows and motion pictures. They have been portrayed on hundreds of magazine covers, and have been featured in many articles from martial arts magazines around the world.

Besides the media coverage, Master Carlos and The Machado Brothers have also published instructional books, comic books, DVD series’, TV documentaries, etc. Master Carlos Machado and The Machado Brothers are on a mission to bring the best of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the World.

Master Carlos and The Machado Brothers believe that the practice of martial arts, specifically Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, has the opportunity to provide students with a tool to improve themselves as individuals by adopting a healthier and more balanced lifestyle. Master Carlos Machado’s legendary academy is located in North Dallas, Farmers Branch, Texas where he teaches all of his students from kids and teens, to women and men. Master Carlos actively trains with all of his students, especially his black belts who are always developing and progressing under the direct supervision and tutelage of their Master who is known as a true legend of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In addition to founding one most successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Master Carlos has also been extremely successful as a coach of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes who compete and fight professionally.

He has also promoted to Black Belt some high profile BJJ practitioners such as Rafael Lovato Junior (Current 8/2019 Bellator Champion), Travis Lutter (Winner of The Ultimate Fighter and UFC Veteran) Anthony Perosh and Elvis Sinosic (both UFC Veterans and IBJJF World Champions) and dozens of others black belts who not only have had a great deal of success in MMA and competitive BJJ, but also own and operate very successful academies.

A proud father of 4 awesome children, and a husband to his wife Lindsay, Carlos Machado is currently an 8th degree Coral Belt and is the head of one of the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organizations in the world: the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association.

One of the main goals of Master Carlos Machado is to simply make the “Average Student, Above Average”. His mission is also to teach his instructors to be the best they can be by mentoring them and instilling in them a solid foundation on many levels, which will greatly benefit not only their own students, but also themselves individually on and off the mats and will ultimately enable successful operation of the many premium Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Academies in the United States and around the world.
