Master Carlos Machado

Carlos Machado, born on November 9, 1963, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a celebrated world master’s champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) and the eldest of the renowned five Machado Brothers. He started martial arts at age four, mainly trained by his cousin Carlos Gracie Jr., alongside other prominent Gracie family members. In Brazil, Carlos was a dominant competitor, winning state and national championships for a decade. After moving to the USA in 1994, he formed a significant connection with martial arts movie star Chuck Norris, who helped promote Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the Machado family. Carlos has won numerous prestigious titles, including the Pan American of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and the World Master’s Championships. Now an Eighth Degree Black Belt, he is known as the “godfather” of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Texas and has built a vast network of affiliate schools worldwide. Carlos has also been inducted into multiple Martial Arts Halls of Fame, acknowledging his contributions to martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Professor Erik Paulson

Erik began his martial arts journey with Judo at age eight but shifted to striking arts like Taekwondo, Boxing, and Karate after a self-defense incident. He later diversified his training under renowned instructors Dan Inosanto, Gene Lebell, and Benny Urquidez in California, learning a wide array of styles including Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, and Muay Thai. In 1988, Erik returned to grappling, studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the Gracie family. He also delved into Shoot Wrestling and Catch Wrestling, training under Yorinaga Nakamura and Billy Robinson, respectively. Erik’s involvement in Shooto began after connecting with Satoru Sayama, leading to his first fight in 1993 where he submitted Kazuhiro Kusayanagi. Though interested in competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, he instead cornered Royce Gracie, as the Gracies chose Royce to represent their style in the competition.

Professor Brandon McCaghren

First to introduce the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system in the Southeastern United States, Brandon has since developed a notable presence in the Jiu-Jitsu community. His educational content on platforms like YouTube and Instagram has attracted a substantial audience, with each channel exceeding 150,000 subscribers, and his Facebook following surpassing 100,000.

The creator of the Professional Grappling Federation, Brandon has introduced a unique sports league to the Jiu-Jitsu world, emphasizing both competitiveness and professionalism. His insights into the sport have also led to roles as a color commentator for major Jiu-Jitsu promotions, including ADCC, EBI, CJJ, AIGA, Subversiv, and the PGF.

At 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Decatur, which was recognized as the top academy in the 10th Planet system in 2014, Brandon’s focus has been on fostering a team that excels both in skill and sportsmanship. His teaching extends internationally, with seminars conducted in various countries, sharing his knowledge and experience with a global audience.
